19th October 2006

We went to see Julien, a French friend of ours who has just bought this Sept. '63 Firetruck. He aims to hit the road with it next year..Note the very cool non-locking rear hatch
John called back in with his granddad's old Devon camper for a service and new ignition switch. This is a lovely original bus.
Lou's bus came in for a new fuel pump and a rebuilt German solex carburettor.

The hinge repairs progress on our project bus. Plates were made from 4mm plate to fit inside the door....
These were drilled and tapped for an M6 thread and then painted along with the hinges. The hinges were then assembled.....before being screwed into place with stainless countersunk screws. The finished door bolted in place. Just a few minor adjustments to do, then the door can be removed for the closing plates welding in.

17th October 2006

Our project bus has rust free cab doors, but all 4 hinges have come away from the doors and the lower ones were missing altogether.

After much searching we found a pair of NOS ones at Spa...Now they just need to be fitted. Fortunately they came out pretty easily. The plan is to bolt them in place with 1/4" reinforcement plates, then weld them once the alignment is sorted.

The new rear drums were re-drilled to 5x130mm porsche pattern to take the NSU wheels, which will be fully polished with custom centre caps.

This is what happens when you don't run an oil strainer in your engine.. we have seen 2 engines suffer from this in recent weeks.. Both times clips from the rocker assembly jammed the pump gears and stripped the pump drive.. result being no oil pressure.

Martin was lucky on our Spa trip, as he stopped driving when the oil light came on...

Russell was not so lucky. Here you can see remains of a big end bearing.

Luke's bus came in for a straight axle kit a couple of weeks ago, just as our camera packed up. Here is the only pic we have.

Martin's 3.5" narrowed ball joint beam finished and ready to bolt into his '66 Bug.
